Dr. Honor Ame Walesby, MS, DVM, DACVS - Owner

Dr. Walesby graduated from the Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993 and began working as a mixed animal practitioner for Community Animal Hospital in Easton, MD. In 1996, she moved to Ames, IA and completed a three year residency in Equine Surgery and earned a Masters degree with honors in Surgery. Dr. Walesby was credentialed as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2000. She continued at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine as an instructor until 2001. She managed the after-hours and daytime surgical services which provided referral soft tissue and orthopedic services. Dr. Walesby trained 900+ veterinary students and two surgery residents, conducted research, and lectured.

In 2002, Dr. Walesby was recruited as an assistant Professor of Surgery by Louisianan State University School of Veterinary Medicine. While at LSU, she trained 500+ veterinary students, 10 interns, and 5 surgery residents. She operated a surgical service which provided referral soft tissue and orthopedic services, wrote grants, developed a cell culture line, and lectured both locally and nationally. 

In 2005, Dr. Walesby transitioned to small animal surgery and moved home to Timonium, MD to raise her son Ethan near family. Since her arrival, she has worked at Timonium Animal Hospital, the Metropolitan Emergency Animal Clinic, and the Emergency Veterinary Clinic before starting full time with the MVSS. Dr. Walesby brings her expertise in lameness, orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, arthroscopy, laparoscopy, musculoskeletal ultrasound, wound care, skin grafting, and upper airway surgery with her from the academic and private practice arenas. Her broad and diverse experience brings a unique dimension to our surgery practice. 


Rita Valente - Receptionist

Rita has been with MVSS for over 8 years. Rita resides in Westminster with her two children and two cats. A new puppy is on the way, yet to be named. A huge football fanatic living near a football town, Rita loves to indulge in Ravens football!


Rick Butler - Veterinary Assistant

Rick has been in veterinary medicine for over 20 years, with the last 5 spent at MVSS. He resides in Carney with his dog Tilly, cats Jasper and Edgar, and several rescued pigeons. Rick enjoys  great films and spending time with his animals. 


Michelle Huntington, RVT - Lead Technician, Manager

Michelle graduated from Virginia Tech in 2007 with a B.S. in Animal Science and has been working in the veterinary field for 8 years. She resides in Woodstock with 2 dogs Molly and Scout, 3 rescued cats, and warmblood horses Bo and Dia. Michelle enjoys riding her horses and rooting for the Redskins and Hokies! 


Carieanne Edmondson, RVT - Overnight Registered Veterinary Technician

Carieanne has been in the veterinary field for over 10 years and is an integral part to the excellent patient care at MVSS. She enjoys volunteering her time to pet therapy with her orange tabby "Butterball" and is very involved in her church community. In addition to being our full time overnight technician, Carieanne also finds time to teach Biology lab classes at Howard Community College.


Kayla Yi - Surgical Veterinary Technician

Kayla has been in the veterinary field since 2010, but has always housed a love and passion for animals. She graduated from UMD with a bachelors degree in Animal Science in 2012 and began her veterinary career in research. She switched to private practice in 2015. Kayla enjoys fitness, weight lifting and quality time with her pets and loved ones. 


Aleksandr Raykhel - Surgical Veterinary Technician

Aleks started as a part-time surgical technician with MVSS in 2014 and became a full time surgery technician early in 2015. He is an avid climber, thrill seeker and lover of animals. Aleks has been in the veterinary field for over 5 years and has a strong interest in both surgery and emergency medicine.
